Intern Program - Under the direction of the Corvallis Fire Department
The purpose of the Intern program is to provide an educational setting for people who want to become fire fighters and/or EMTs. Intern Volunteers, along with Civilian Volunteers and a CFD Lieutenant, maintain the Locke Fire Station. For the Intern volunteers, it is their primary residence as they attend college and train to be firefighters and apparatus operators.
Intern Volunteers receive free lodging at the Locke Fire Station and are eligible for scholarships to help defray their educational costs. This, too, is an ideal situation for students.
Duties and expectations include: Training a minimum of 8 hours per month and other hours as necessary; Volunteering with other Interns at the Locke Station to provide coverage 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. An example of a volunteer schedule would be 24 hours on duty followed by 48 hours off duty. Each Intern would receive every third duty shift off. This would equate to a minimum of 168 hours of volunteer time per month. Obtaining EMT Basic certification within 12 months of start date is a shared goal.
